When moles change to take on certain specific characteristics, this may indicate melanoma (an aggressive form of malignant skin cancer), and moles will need to be investigated to exclude this possibility. If you have a mole which is asymmetrical, has an irregular border or colour, is elevated or has enlarged to a diameter of greater than 7mm, it is important to get it medically checked. Benign moles are generally regular and uniformly pigmented. They may be raised or flat to the surrounding skin, and can appear anywhere on the body. In terms of colouration, they vary widely from pink to dark brown, blue or even black. They can also vary significantly in size.

While benign moles do not require treatment, it is important to remain vigilant, and protect them from potential damage by the use of sunscreen.
Altruderm provides a thorough mole-check service and offers benign mole removal carried out by Dr. McDaid. We assess moles closely with the use of dermoscopy, and send all tissue samples to a pathology unit for analysis. We use a variety of techniques for the removal of benign moles, including the use of advanced surgical technology proven to produce excellent cosmetic results as well as offering quick recovery; less bruising; less swelling; less scarring; and less pain after the mole removal. |
